Drip coffee: how to brew coffee with no equipment at all
Drip coffee is a single-serve portion of ground coffee in a paper filter bag with special “ear” holders. You brew it right in the cup with hot water — no coffee machine, cezve or any other gear. Perfect for the office, travel or just a lazy morning.
What it is
One drip-coffee packet contains 10–12 grams of ground coffee — a ready-made portion, nothing to measure. The packet is sealed with nitrogen, so the coffee stays fresh even without a fridge or special container — just carry it with you and brew whenever it’s convenient.
All you need is a cup and hot water. No grinder, cezve or coffee maker.
How much water
150–180 ml
One packet (10–12 g) is designed for one regular cup. Prefer a milder taste — you can top it up with a little more water after brewing.
Step by step: how to brew
- Open the outer packaging and take out the filter packet with coffee.
- Open the “ear” holders on the sides and hang the packet on the rim of the cup — it sits steadily on its own, no hands needed.
- Boil the water and let it sit for about 30 seconds — boiling water is too hot and makes the coffee bitter.
- Pour a small amount of water — roughly a quarter of the cup — and wait 20–30 seconds. The coffee will foam a little — that’s normal, it’s just “breathing”.
- Add the rest of the water in 2–3 stages, in small portions, letting the water drain between them.
- Once all the water has drained through the filter — remove the packet and discard it. The coffee is ready.
Why it’s convenient
Nothing extra needed
No grinder, cezve or coffee maker — just a cup and hot water.
Take it on the road
A light packet fits in a pocket or bag — handy for the office, train or a hike.
Always fresh
Nitrogen-sealed packaging keeps the aroma even without a fridge.
Exact portion
10–12 g of coffee in every packet — no need to weigh or measure anything.
Common mistakes
Pouring all the water at once. The filter can’t pass the water evenly — some may overflow over the edge.
Boiling water straight from the kettle. Give the water 30 seconds to cool — the flavour will open up more gently, without extra bitterness.
Squeezing or pressing the packet. This forces extra bitterness out of the grounds — just let the water drain on its own.
Leaving the packet in the cup too long. Even after the water has drained — take it out right away, otherwise the coffee will keep steeping and turn bitter.
See it in action
Drip coffee is great-tasting coffee with no compromise on convenience: you can brew it anywhere, and the freshness of the beans stays just as good as in a pack on your kitchen shelf.
